The Beginning!

My name is ProperMax. I like playing and talking about games that interest me, from games on Nintendo consoles to horror games and the such. I would get into gaming after my parents bought a Wii that I would end up pretty much stealing because, to my kid brain, all I saw was "ooh, pretty colors." The games I played on the Wii ranged a lot, from Mario Party 8 and Mario Kart Wii to Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles. I would also end up borrowing my parents' PS2 every once in a while, playing Rachet and Clank, Spyro a couple times, and at one point the original Star Wars Battlefront games!

My journey online started somewhere between 2008 and 2009, when My dad and I shared a computer. While he was at work, I had free rein over the computer until he got home. I wouldn't really get that much into the internet until around late 2009 when I would get my own computer, a hand-me-down laptop my mom had previously used before my dad bought her a full desktop computer. I would eventually get my own personal desktop computer a bit later, around mid to late 2010, just in time to play some LEGO Universe and stumble across ROBLOX for the very first time. It was on this computer that I would play my first ever Steam game, Left 4 Dead 2, with my parents. Though, while I enjoyed messing with my computer, I still put aside time to play my Wii, watch TV, and play with toys (y'know, kid things). I had trudged through the same sites I used to use on my dad's computer for a while until I accidentally stumbled upon YouTube around 2012, finding out about Markiplier and the SCP Foundation, cementing my interest in YouTube and, later, desire to become a YouTuber. Through YouTube, I would find out about many things, like Minecraft, the world of Creepypastas, about funny and scary indie games like Tubro Dismount, :the game:, and Henry Stickmin for the former and SCP Containment Breach, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Baldi's Basics, and Slender: The Eight Pages for the latter.

The start of my YouTube!

A lot would happen from then to when I started my YouTube; a lot of hardships and stuff like that. I would lose my original Wii due to a move, spend some time without a roof over my head, and deal with almost losing a family member to sepsis.

Despite this, a couple things stayed constant throughout my entire life:

  • I would always have a Nintendo console, like my DS or Wii U
  • I would always aspire to become a YouTuber like Markiplier

This is more than most people like me would have as a constant, but I was grateful for what I did have and wasn't about to let my dream of becoming a YouTuber die because of a few bad moments that would leave others feeling hopeless. As I got older, and closer and closer to the age to be able to start making YouTube content, I studied what it took to be a successful YouTuber.

Then, on the 6th of June, 2017, I would make the YouTube channel currently called ProperMax.

The channel originally was called "ProperGames" because I figured it'd help my channel get seen more, but eventually changed it to be "ProperMax" due to the original name sounding very corny. It's why, if you look at my email address on my YouTube, it says "ProperGames" instead of "ProperMax." I started off the channel just doing whatever to figure out how doing YouTube worked, and it took a while for me to actually start doing consistent stuff on it. I started my YouTube using the latest version of Windows Movie Maker at the time, and it held through until late 2018 when I made the switch to Davinci Resolve 15. I had dabbled in other editors, and Davinci was more than fit for the job as not only was it free, it had more than enough for what I was doing.

The transition to the content I make now!

Things would continue, with some bumps happening over the years, dropping the Let's Play style and just uploading gameplay footage, and then dabbling in a more "review" kind of video with my Half-Life: C.A.G.E.D. video. My best friend, KrazeeTobi, and I would start a series called The 1313 District on the 24th of July, 2022. This (sort of) weekly series would help me keep somewhat consistent on uploading. While the 1313 series was still alive, Sonic Origins released, and I decided to make a video comparing it to Sonic Classic Collection called "Sonic Origins Vs. Sonic Classic Collection: Which Is Better?" The video ended up blowing up, becoming one of my best videos yet.

This inspired me to continue making videos like it, making another video that talked about Sonic Frontiers when it had freshly released, plus another one when Update 1 came out. When Sonic Origins Plus released, I had set aside an entire couple weeks to make a video about it before then making a video on Update 2 of Sonic Frontiers right after. The video that got me to 100 subs was a comparison video between Sonic Superstars and Super Mario Bros. Wonder, of which I wasted no time on making. Though, with that video, I also decided to spread out to talk about other things than Sonic, as that's what all the videos at that point had revolved around, and I didn't want to be known as another guy who exclusively talked about Sonic.

Now!

So, now, I'm working on some review/video essay-ish videos surrounding other games I like. Got a couple in the works talking about horror games, and one that's about a childhood game of mine that has a not as good sequel, of which I mentioned in my Sonic Superstars vs Super Mario Bros. Wonder video. I'm still holding hope that I'll eventually get lucky enough that my channel grows, but there's unfortunately no saying whether it is guaranteed to do so. Though, around mid 2021, I had begun learning to program so I can make my own games and had made this site on the 4th of February, 2024, as a hub for my creations. I'll definitely be updating this about as time goes on and I achieve more and more. Here's hoping to a good future!
